A Day of Unity: Reading Frederick Douglass

A Day of Unity: Reading Frederick Douglass

Come gather around the Steps and listen to one of America's most iconic speeches that supported the call for emancipation. Fredrick Douglass's "What, to the slave, is the Fourth of July" will be read with a backdrop of African drums, dance, and gospel music. There will be a free ice cream social and a marketplace that will be open during that time.

This program is made possible by a grant from Mass Humanities, which provided funding through the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC). Mass Humanities is a state-based affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
